Yesterday I finished putting all the drz.fits images into ellipse and then created a program on idl for my a4/a equation. The collect also happened yesterday, so I helped Kevin moving targets around and then helped clean up.

Yesterday I finished downloading all the images from the HST. Then I began to put them into the ellipse program. I took the table that ellipse made and turned them into .dat files so they could be read in the putty.

Yesterday morning at the meeting, Bob had us sit in a dark room for ten minutes. Then he made us cover one eye and walk around the building and back to the same room. The lights were then turned off again and we could then open the eye that we held closed. We could see out of the eye that had been closed but not the eye that was open. This is because the pupal dilated in the eye that was closed in order to let more light in. The opposite eye's pupal was not dilated because we had been walking in a lighted area so the pupal didn't needed to be as big for it to absorb light.

I was downloading more images from the HST and then Jake fixed the ellipse program. So now I can run the fits files through ellipse and get the A4 and B4 data.

Today was boring because the ellipse program still doesn't work. Hopefully Jake can fix it before he leaves. So I was just creating directories for the images from the HST and deleting the 2000 I didn't need.

Friday, July 23, 2010

Today I worked with Grant, Kevin, and Jake on the ellipse program in iraf because it won't run on my computer. We still don't know why it isn't work but we are making progress.

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Today I was fortunate to work with Grant for about 2 hours. That allowed me to ask all the questions i had about the project and now we are working on fixing some problems with iraf before he leaves. Grant is trying to set me up with everything I need in order to finish the project.

It was great to learn more about BME at UR. Also, it was awesome to see where my sister went to school because she graduated from UR with a major in BME.

Today I started to learn iraf and how to use the ellipse program inorder to clean my images.

Intrapreneurship is the act of behaving like a entrepreneur, except within a larger organization. Every person working in a lab is a intrapreneur because they are all working on individual ideas to accomplish new things never thought of before.

Today I sorted out all of the files I downloaded from the HST yesterday into directories and deleted the ones i didn't need. The problem with downloading from the HST is that when you download one file, you obtain ten images and not all are needed.

Monday, July 19, 2010

Today was long and boring. I was sorting out the 3c images from the B2 data set and then downloaded and put the rest of the images from the B2 data into a folder.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Today was so long because it's Friday. I finished putting all my images into idl so I had to wait to get more work which also made the day longer. I hope that I can get more data on Monday to work on.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

I spent all day rewriting a program because I kept getting errors. But, I finally got it to work with about 2 minutes left in the day and I was so happy. But that's research.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

today we went to JML optics. It was cool to learn about how they actually made lenses and the engineering behind them. Then we had delicious subs at Emile's. Back at the insight lab I was downloading programs in order to put the astro library into my directory. Then all the interns played volleyball outside for an hour. It was fun but it could have been better if everyone knew how to play. But that's my bias opinion because I love volleyball.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Today my lab went to a somewhat boring speech but we got a free lunch. Also, I'm happy because I start working on finding the points of the images I'm working with. Then I downloaded Ds9 so that I could see the images. So overall today was a good day.

Monday, July 12, 2010

Today was very long because all i did was wait for Grant to come in and give the data for my project and then i had to read two papers for the remainder of the day.

Friday, July 9, 2010

Today we have a meeting with are advisers to discuss some possible projects for us to do and we will pick them on monday. then the rest of the day I on idl learning programing.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Today we started learn idl by going through the help menu. At the monment idl is confusing but the I think once we start using it it will get easier. Then we had a 3:30 meeting that ended up running into the 5 O'clock meeting because no one could get to the files Jake wanted us to see.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Today was way too hot for the scavenger hunt, but it was still fun until we had to create the video on a Mac which no one knew how to use and it kept freezing.
